The spectacular overhead in –8°C conditions led Atletico Ottawa of Canada to their first-ever title after a wild snowbound showdown

Canada gifted the football world one of its wildest finals ever. They're calling it "the Icicle Kick" - a stunning bicycle goal scored in the middle of a blizzard, in a match that looked more like a snow battle than a cup final.

Atletico Ottawa claimed their first-ever North Star Cup, beating Cavalry FC 2-1 after extra time in front of frozen fans and swirling snowflakes - a truly Canadian spectacle.

The temperature dropped to -8°C, visibility vanished, and the pitch disappeared under layers of white. The game stopped every 15 minutes so crews could shovel the lines, while goalkeepers cleared their own boxes with spades. Before extra time, a snowplough had to be brought in.

Cavalry struck first through former Rangers man Fraser Aird, who scored a 33rd-minute penalty - in short sleeves, no less - before celebrating with a knee slide on the snow, prompting a barrage of snowballs from home fans.

But then came the moment that will live on in CPL folklore. In the 40th minute, 23-year-old David Rodriguez launched himself into the freezing night air and smashed in a spectacular overhead kick that crashed off the bar and in - "the Icicle Kick."

Rodriguez, born in Mexico and with "zero snow experience," wasn't done. Deep into extra time, he struck again, chipping over Marco Carducci to complete the miracle.

"I came into the locker room, saw the snow, and thought - it's going to be a good day," Rodriguez said, smiling through the frost.

Goalkeeper Nathan Ingham summed up the madness perfectly:

"The whole night feels fake. You play us in sand, you play us in snow, you play us on the moon - this team is going to win."

Founded in 2020 as part of the Atletico Madrid family, Ottawa's triumph is a fairy tale written in ice and fire - a night when football froze, but hearts burned.
