Netherlands meet Romania in the opening game of the Tuesday menu at the EURO 2024

If someone had told you before the start of the tournament that one of those two, The Netherlands and Romania, would dominate their group while the other would struggle to reach the knockout stage, you would probably have agreed with such an outcome. But you would probably think the Dutch side would be the one to top the group.

Alas, they've progressed to the next round with a bit of luck, and now they face one of the EURO 2024 biggest surprises, Romania in the Round of 16.

If we take a look at the history of their battles, it's anything but pleasant for Romanians.

The Oranje have won the last four matches and scored at least three goals three of those times.

However, the truth is that the current form does not promise much for Ronald Koeman's side.

In the opening game, they defeated Poland 2-1 before drawing with France (0-0), and ended the group stage with a 3-2 loss to Austria.

They didn't disappoint, but it's far from the expected levels for Virgil van Dijk, Memphis Depay and others.

This Tuesday, they will show what they are made of. In case of a win, they'll meet with the defeater of the Austria-Turkey tie. The semi-final doors are already open, but now they must do something on their own.
