Gusii are currently ranked fourteenth on nine points after nine rounds and entertain Mara Sugar in their next league clash

Gusii FC striker Mathew Tegisi is confident the club will overcome the recent turbulence in the league and turn things around.

Gusii got themselves in an awkward situation last week as they failed to show up for a league clash against Kibera Black Stars in Nairobi that subsequently came with a three-point deduction from the Football Kenya Federation sending the club to the bottom of the league.

In a show of resilience and determination, Phelix Ogutu's coached side returned to action on Saturday thumping Silibwet Leons 2-1 at the Cardinal Otunga High School Grounds to climb the ladder and out of the relegation zone.

Tegisi who joined the club during the off-season transfer window from Mombasa Elite and established himself as a key member of the team told Mozzart Sport that the team was working tirelessly in order to achieve seasons’ objectives and that they were not distracted by the happenings around the club.

"We will definitely bounce back from the setbacks we had since the season started. We are doing everything possible to get us focused and achieve our objectives which is key to any team. The playing unit is united and not concerned with what is going on that is for the management to work on it and get a solution," said Tegisi.

The former Elite star regretted that the team had to issue a walkover last weekend noting that they could be fighting at the top if they had honored the match but remained adamant they would soon catch up with the lead group.

Gusii have endured a tough start to the 2023-2024 National Super League season that has seen the club have a shift in the coaching department following the departure of Kassim Otieno.

We started the season well and had high hopes which are still there yes but losing a coach midway had an impact on the team. But the management worked swiftly in bringing in a coach who understands his players better and is always there for us. The chemistry between the playing unit and the coach is there and soon we will explode our way to the top,” added Tegisi.

The player also revealed his desire to hit more than ten goals this term hailing the combination between him and Joshua Chabicha noting that if fit the duo are keen to guide Gusii to FKF Premier League as he feels the Kisii housed club has overstayed in the second division.

I am enjoying life here and playing alongside Joshua has got me banging goals again My target is 15 goals and a place in the top-flight league. Gusii has overstayed here and if we just focus on our game and let the office play their part then we are going to compete at the top,” he concluded
