Joash expected to partner Henock at the heart of the defence

Kenyan international Joash Onyango is expected to be in action when outgoing Tanzanian Premier League champions Simba face their eternal rivals Yanga on Saturday in the Azam Sports Federation Cup semifinal at the CCM Kirumba Stadium in Kwanza.

Simba who won the Cup last season will be hoping to replicate the 2020 edition results as they humiliated Yanga 4-1 at the fully packed Benjamin Mkapa Stadium, Dar es Salaam.

Last season, Simba ended Yanga's dream of clinching the Cup after winning the closely contested final tie staged at Lake Tanganyika Stadium by a solitary goal in a game that Joash played to its entirety.

Wekundu wa Msimbazi have been camping in Mwanza for a couple of weeks in a bid to fine-tune every department ahead of the game will be looking to advance to the final and claim glory for the third time.

Simba booked a place in the last four after cruising past Pamba FC 4-0 while Yanga prevailed over Geita Gold. This will be the third time the two giants will be facing off this season. The holders who have been missing the contribution of Clatous Chama for a while owing to an injury will make do without the services of Jonas Mkude who is injured.

Another Kenyan player in Kenneth Muguna is expected to play when his side Azam FC face Coastal Union in the other semifinal set for Sunday at the Sheikh Amri Abeid Stadium on Sunday.

Azam floored Tanzania Police 3-0 in the quarterfinals while Coastal Union who acquired Kenyan defender Sosthenes Idah from Bandari before the season began edged Kagera Sugar who are under the tutelage of former Kenyan international Francis Baraza 5-4 on post match penalties.

The Azam Cup, previously known as the Nyerere Cup was formed in 1974. The game is set for a 3:30 PM EAT kick off.
