Super Cup behind the scenes: insults, provocations, trash talk and brawl

Real Madrid's 3-0 triumph against Mallorca in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal was overshadowed by the festival of unsportsmanlike behaviour during and after the game

Real Madrid beat Mallorca 3-0 in the Spanish Super Cup semifinal and scheduled another El Classico for Sunday's grand final. Even though the crew from the Balearic Islands was only 1-0 down until the injury time, they eventually fell in the dying minutes, conceding two more goals.

However, football is far from the most important news in both Spanish and European media the day after the clash. What happened during the game between certain players (which neither the crowd nor the spectators by their TVs could notice) and especially following the ref's final whistle is currently topic #1.

Just like against Valencia when he got sent off, Vinicius Jr was the centre of attention, and once more, not because of his playing skills. The Brazilian battled out with Mallorca's Pablo Maffeo throughout the match, but it did not end with regular "football duels." The two exchanged a number of insults, trash-talking for almost the entire game, and ultimately, things even got physical.

Still, everything started with Maffeo's pre-match claim that he would be able to knock Vinicius down in ten seconds in a boxing match and then things just continued on the pitch. According to Marca, Vini spoke to Maffeo following Jude Bellingham's opener, saying, "You're going home, you're going home. You're terrible and you're going home." The Argentinian answered by throwing the forward to the ground after one of their numerous duels while the Brazilian attempted to slap the rival.

Both that and Mallorca's "refusal to surrender" heated the situation on the pitch, which culminated after the game when both teams' players started a brawl. The alleged spark that ignited the fire was Bellingham slapping Maffeo on the back of the head, as well as the young Raul Asencio's provocations, to which Mallorca's right-back uttered, "Go away you moron," while Madrid defender's response was "Go away, you're very bad, you're very bad," Marca claims.

All in all, both crews should undoubtedly be ashamed of their behaviour as they sent a bad picture to the world. When all this happened in a clash between Real Madrid and Mallorca, who knows what the public can expect on Sunday in El Classico...
