Former Ghanian international makes his debut for Hearts of Oak and refuses a captain's armband
We've seen some interesting decisions over the years, with some players deciding to retire a bit too early. But Sulley Muntari's case is probably unique - former Ghanian international and the Champions League winner with Inter Milan has decided to put an end to his retirement and return to the pitch three years after he hanged his boots, aged 37.
THE STRONGEST - ORIENTE PETROLERO
The prolific midfielder's last spell dates back in 2019 with the Spanish side Albacete. However, on Sunday afternoon, after a three-year-long hiatus, Muntari reappeared on the pitch, this time with the Ghanian greats Hearts of Oak.
He came in as a sub in a 1-0 home loss to Great Olympics, in a match played in Accra.
What attracted the attention of journos and fans was Muntari's reaction after coming in as a substitution in the second half. Hearts of Oak captain ran to him to offer him the armband, but humble as he is, Muntari refused it instantly.
