It will feel like a little Barcelona in Florida next year

Inter Miami CF is on the verge of signing legendary Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez for the 2024 MLS season, as confirmed by several reports from reputable journalists in South America.

The deal would see Suarez finishing the current year with Brazilian Serie A club Gremio before joining forces with former Barcelona teammate Lionel Messi in Inter Miami's attack. Suarez and Messi were part of the iconic "MSN" forward line, alongside Brazilian star Neymar, during their time at Barcelona.

In addition to Messi, other former Barca teammates, Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba, are also key members of Inter Miami's squad for the upcoming season. These three players joined the club during the transformative 2023 transfer window.

Suarez has been linked with a move to Miami for some time, and the speculation intensified after Messi officially signed with the club in July. Head coach Tata Martino has kept the possibility of Suarez's arrival open. When the club declined to renew striker Josef Martinez's contract, it created an opening for Suarez to fill the No. 9 role alongside Leonardo Campana.

Throughout his illustrious career, Suarez has played for esteemed European clubs such as Barcelona, Ajax, Liverpool, and Atletico Madrid. He has scored over 450 goals and won more than 20 trophies at the club level. Suarez, who will turn 37 in January, has posted impressive stats of ten goals and ten assists in 26 matches for Gremio, where they currently hold the third position in the ongoing Brazilian Serie A campaign.

On the international stage, Suarez is Uruguay's all-time leading scorer with 68 goals in 137 caps. He has represented his country in four World Cups and was part of the Copa América-winning team in 2011. He formed a lethal partnership with Edinson Cavani, who now plays for Argentine side Boca Juniors.

Inter Miami is already building momentum into the 2024 season, following their historic Leagues Cup victory and Messi winning his record-breaking eighth Ballon d'Or award. The addition of Suarez to the roster is set to raise the global spotlight on the South Florida-based club, which is preparing to debut in Concacaf Champions Cup action in February.
