On Friday, the EFL League Two side will release a special kit in honour of the late English princess who died in a car accident in 1997

When Wimbledon's Crazy Gang, led by Vinnie Jones, stunned the world and defeated super-strong Liverpool in the 1988 FA Cup final, Princess Diana was the one to hand over the iconic trophy to their captain, custodian Dave Beasant.

Some 36 years later, the same club, only now playing in the fourth tier (EFL League Two) after the series of wrongdoings, decided to pay tribute to the late Princess in a special way.

AFC Wimbledon decided to get involved in a special charity initiative that brings us a unique one-off jersey. They will wear the special-edition jersey in the match against Harrogate on Friday.

However, the shirt worn in the match will be different from the shirt showcased. A stripped-back playing version (not shown yet) – adapted to meet EFL rules – will be worn for the game itself.

"The slightly tweaked playing version will instantly become one of, if not the, rarest Wimbledon shirts you could own," the club announced.

It was just one of thousands of fashion designs, but after Diana was seen wearing it, it quickly became a sensation.
