Sterling's sitters and Lemina's standing header pile more misery on Chelsea's woeful season

Wolves beat the Blues 2-1 in an exciting clash at Molineux, which could have gone a whole other way if the experienced forward had made something out of his terrific chances

Chelsea's miserable Premier League season keeps worsening after a new Sunday 2-1 away defeat to Wolves.

Mauricio Pochettino's side had their chances at Molineux, and Raheem Sterling missed two sitters that could have made all the difference. Alas, his selfishness and poor finishing allowed the hosts to save their own net and fight back on the other end through Mario Lemina and Matt Doherty.

In the second period, by which time Chelsea had fallen behind, Jackson found himself with a clear sight of goal, just like Sterling on two previous occasions, but could not sort his feet out and lost his balance before he could manage a shot.

Christofer Nkunku, though, managed to pull one back deep into stoppage time, but it was not enough for at least a draw.

The result leaves Chelsea 10th, seven points off qualification for the Europa Conference League, which, even at this stage, looks the best the Londoners can hope for. Wolves are now level on points with the Blues.

Cole Palmer will not be available for the 27 December encounter with Crystal Palace at Stamford Bridge after he picked up his fifth booking for needlessly kicking the ball away.
