David Owino, Shabaan Odhoji and Duke Abuya's teams failed to progress past the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup
Three Kenyan internationals based in Zambia have hit the end of the road when it comes to their continental aspirations. This is after Napsa Stars and Nkana FC, where they ply their trade, were bundled out of the CAF Confederations Cup after failing to make it past the group stages.
Duke Abuya (Nkana) and former Gor Mahia men David Owino and Shabaan Odhoji (both Napsa Stars) will now have to watch from the sidelines after their teams failed to finish in the required top two places. Here is a wrap of how their teams played yester night.
Duke Abuya
Despite playing a full ninety minutes, the Harambee Stars midfielder could only watch as Morocco’s Raja Casablanca defeated his side 2-0 at the Mohammed V stadium in Casablanca.
First half goals by Riad Idbouiguiguine and Noah Sadaoui were enough to do the damage for the North Africans as they progressed to the knockouts. Nkana went out as a result of finishing in third place on six points in Group D.
David Owino and Shabaan Odhoji
Goalkeeper Odhoji and defender Owino did not manage to keep out Algeri’s JS Kabylie as Napsa Stars went down 2-1 at the Stade 1 Novembre 1954. Mohamed Benchaira scored the opening goal for the home team before Kouceila Boualia added the second. Emmanuel Mayuka pulled one back for the visitors but it proved too little too late for Napsa who had eliminated record champions Gor Mahia in the final preliminary round before the group stages.
Napsa Stars finished in last place in the group stages where they faced Cotonsport, Berkane and JS Kabylie.
Being the last round of action, these are the teams that made it into the quarter finals of the confederations cup: Enyimba, JS Kabylie, ASC Jaraaf, Raja Club Athletic, Orlando Pirates, Cotonsport, CF Sfaxien, Pyramids.
The draw is scheduled for Friday 30 April, 2021 in Cairo
