STARS ABROAD: Olunga on target for Al Arabi in season-opener as Abuya collects another trophy

Olunga, 31, scored a header in the 14th minute to give his new club the lead on Friday night
Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga opened his Qatar Stars League account for his new club Al Arabi SC on Friday, 15 August, as they settled for a 2-2 draw with Al Wakra.
Olunga, 31, got himself on the scoresheet in the 14th minute, heading in a Abdou Diallo cross from the right into the top-corner.

The goal gave Al Arabi a 1-0 lead before Amine Zouhzouh equalized for the visitors three minutes later.
Al Arabi retook the lead seven minutes before the break through Spanish forward Pablo Sarabia, but the Al Wakra were not to be defeated, pulling back again eight minutes after the hour-mark through Berkane Redouane.

The draw for Al Arabi means they are placed fourth in the league, two points behind the leading trio of Al Gharafa, Al Rayyan and Shamal, who all won in their opening matches.
For Olunga, his first goal of the season extended his hot start at his new club, having already shone during preseason.
Olunga, formerly of Al Duhail, scored his first goal for Al Arabi on Saturday, 19 July in a 2-0 friendly win over Club Costa City, before adding a brace against Spanish side UD Ibiza.
His last preseason involvement saw him score and assist in Al Arabi’s 3-0 victory over Cordoba on Saturday, 2 August.
Elsewhere in Rwanda, Kenyan midfielder Duke Abuya added a piece of silverware to his growing trophy cabinet after his side Young Africans beat Rwanda’s Rayon Sport 3-1 in the annual Rayon Sports Day.
The triumph, which involved the team celebrate a customized trophy afterwards, was Abuya’s third this year, following Yanga’s domestic double success last season.

In Ireland, Harambee Stars prospect Wilson Waweru was left on the bench as Sligo Rovers progressed past the third round of the Football Association of Ireland Senior Challenge Cup.
Rovers, playing away at Dalymount Park, got their only goal of the game through 19-year-old Owen Elding to seal the win over Bohemians.
