Five Kenyan internationals are set to face off in the Zambian Cup final taking place tomorrow
As many as five Kenyan internationals plying their trade in Zambia could face each other when Lusaka Dynamos and Zesco United lock horns against each other in the ABSA 2021 Cup final scheduled to take place on Saturday afternoon at the MTN Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka, Zambia.
Former Gor Mahia captain Musa Mohammed and midfielder Duncan Otieno play for Lusaka Dynamos while goalkeeper Ian Otieno alongside strikers John Mark Makwatta and Jesse Jackson Were turn out for Zesco United.
Zesco go into the game as the current log leaders in the Zambian Super League and also as the strong favorites for the cup. The club is on a seven match winning streak in the league, performances that have taken them seven points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand. Zesco, who also happen to be the defending champions of the cup, will be gunning for a seventh cup title when they take on Dynamos.
Former Tusker striker Jesse Were provided an assist for Zesco in the team’s 4-0 win against Konkola Blades FC in the semi-finals of the cup.
Their head coach, Numba Mumamba, who is leading the team into the cup finals on his debut season expects a tough battle against Dynamos.
“Lusaka Dynamos are equally a big team. They have shown that over the years and in the recent past. They have had good results in the league and Absa Cup. As such we are expecting a tough final. We just need to apply ourselves very well in order to beat them and win the title,” the coach stated on the club’s website.
Lusaka Dynamos on the other hand sit in the seventh position on the log and will be looking to end Zesco’s dominance over them in the last three league meetings where they have all faced defeat. Midfielder Duncan Otieno was named in the club’s last league meeting against Zanaco United where, unfortunately for him, they were beaten 2-1.
The match takes place tomorrow at 1600 EAT.
