The right back has been the talk of town after missing from Engin Firat’s 25-man squad for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in June

Kenyan right back Daniel Anyembe played 90 minutes for his side Viborg FF as they suffered their third straight defeat in a 3-1 loss to Lyngby at the Lyngby Stadion on Monday.

The 25-year-old was making a return to the team’s starting lineup after coming off the substitutes bench in their last game against Randers FC.

Anyembe, who was deployed in his familiar right side of Jakob Poulsen’s defense, was the talk of town in Kenya after missing from Engin Firat’s 25-man squad for the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers in June.

His omission, plus thus of notable figures Michael Olunga and Richard Odada, were later addressed by Firat in an interview with Mozzart Sport, where it was clarified that due to club commitments, the trio would not train with the provisional squad, but would link up in Malawi, the venue for the two games against Burundi and Ivory Coast.

On Monday, Isak Jensen gave the visitors the lead after 11 minutes after he had intercepted a pass from Nicolas Bürgy.

Everything looked to be going Viborg’s way till the last 10 minutes of the contest, when Lyngby found a route back through substitute Atli Magnússon, who scored a three-minute brace, and Tochi Chukwuani in the 89th minute to wrap up the 3-1 win.

Playing in the relegation-playoff Group B, Viborg are second with 37 points, and now must beat their next rivals OB to maintain their spot in the Superliga next season.
