St. Joseph’s Kitale delivered a commanding performance by defeating the reigning Kenyan champions, Highway High School, with a commanding 3-0 victory
Kenya National School Games football second runners-up, St. Joseph’s Kitale, and first runners-up, Musingu School, emerged as standout performers on Day 5 of the ongoing 2024 Federation of East Africa School Sports Associations (FEASSA) Games in Mbale, Uganda.
St. Joseph’s Kitale delivered a commanding performance by defeating the reigning Kenyan champions, Highway High School, with a commanding 3-0 victory.
This win propels the Kitale-based school to second place in Group A with five points, trailing two points behind group leaders and defending champions, St. Mary’s Kitende.
St. Joseph’s faces a crucial match against Kitende, where a win is necessary to secure a spot in the semi-finals. Alternatively, they could advance should Highway High School vs Bukedea draw in the other final game of the group.
On the other hand, Musingu School continued their impressive run, beating Rwandan side APE Rugunga 2-0. With two wins and one draw, Musingu have secured their place at the top of Group B and have already qualified for the semi-finals with one match remaining in the group stage.
In the girls’ football category, Nyakach Girls suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat to Uganda’s St. Noa, while Kenyan champions Butere Girls battled to a goalless draw against Tanzania’s Alliance.
In rugby 15s boys, All Saints Embu booked a spot in the finals with a hard-fought 21-17 victory over Makerere College School in the first semi-final. However, Kitondo, the other Kenyan representatives, were unable to set up an all-Kenyan final, falling 40-3 to defending champions St. Mary’s College Kisubi.
St. Charles Lwanga who lost their first preliminary match in boys’ hockey against St. Anthony’s Kitale finished off their last group stage match beating Uganda’s Kyadondo 4-0, securing the top spot in Pool B and earning a semi-final match against Ntare School of Uganda.
In another highly anticipated clash, Kenyan champions Musingu will face off against St. Anthony’s Kitale, a repeat of the 2024 KSSSA national finals and last year’s FEASSA semi-finals.
In girls’ hockey, Nyamira Girls delivered another stunning performance, scoring five goals past Ugandan side Bweranyangi while, Kenyan champions Tigoi played to a thrilling 2-2 draw with St. Joseph’s Kitale, leaving both teams in a tense position heading into the final rounds.
