Sparks eye second win in clash against Kangemi

Benard Kitolo's Zetech Sparks are eyeing Kangemi Ladies' scalp in their Saturday match set for Gems Cambridge School at 3 pm. 

Coming off a one-all draw with Women Premier League (WPL) champions Thika Queens, the varsity side will ride on that momentum as they chase maximum points against the newbies for their second victory in six matches. 

Coach Kitolo says complacency in the goalkeeping department and poor finishing has cost them points in the league, a matter he believes to have handled conclusively during their training ahead of the Kangemi match. 

"From our 1-0 loss to Kayole Starlets to the result away to Wadadia where we went down 2-0, our custodians were wanting and we have had to address the issue. 

We are using Consolata Wanjiku in the absence of our first choice keeper Stella Ahono who is still recovering from an injury. The former is just as good and I believe she is equal to the task against Kangemi," offered Kitolo. 

The varsity side find themselves two places above the relegation zone at ninth place with four points from their 6-2 win against Kisumu All Starlets and their draw against Thika. 

"We will not be out to play beautiful football without a positive result like has been in previous matches. Our finishing has been poor and I have made the players understand that we need to work on that and take a win, nothing else matters," the tactician added. 

Turncliff Asiebella, on his part, will be eyeing his first victory and points in top-flight as Kangemi remain winless. The side underwent a turbulent pre-season with the squad that did duty as the team won the Zone A Division One league to gain promotion to the premier league leaving, forcing Asiebella to rebuild. 

In other matches, relegation-battling, albeit early days, Kisumu All Starlets host Bunyore Starlets at Moi Stadium Kisumu as they look to bag a second win in six matches and claw their way out of the danger zone. 

On their part, Daniel Arunga-coached Bunyore are chasing a third win that could see them move to fifth place, depending on results from other matches. 

Trans Nzoia Falcons host Nakuru Queens while Wadadia play Kayole Starlets at Mumias Complex.
