South African ace Percy Tau parts way with Al Ahly

South African international Percy Tau has parted ways with Egyptian giants Al Ahly according to Supersport.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns player, who joined the Egyptian outfit back in 2021 on a reported two year contract, follows head coach Pitso Mosimane in leaving the club barely three months after Mosimane’s departure.

It is believed Mosimane played a strong part in influencing Tau to move to Egypt after his unsuccessful spell at English Premier League outfit Brighton and Hove Albion with the two having worked previously at Sundowns.

Tau, who has played for Anderlecht, Club Brugge and Royale Union in Belgium enjoyed regular game time while under Mosimane who signed him during his spell.

According to statistics, the South African made 20 league appearances finding the back of the net 5 times.

He played in the 2021 CAF Super Cup on 22 December, in which he assisted Al Ahly's goal in the eventual penalty shootout victory, in which he scored.

Meanwhile Zamalek have officially been crowned Champions of the Egyptian Premier League after their closest rivals Pyramids FC (Fagrie Lakay's side) dropped points last night meaning they cannot mathematically close the seven point gap to the current log leaders as they only have two matches to play.

Tau's former club Al Ahly look set to finish in third place where they currently sit four points behind Pyramids who have played an extra game.

It is the first time in their over 100 year history for Zamalek to win the title in consecutive seasons.

It has been a bumper last two seasons for Zamalek who won the delayed 2020/2021 Egyptian Cup against arch rivals Al Ahly SC in July.

The team is still in contention for this season's Egyptian Cup and will be up against Al Masry in the quarter-finals on Friday.
