Sources close to Mozzart Sport indicate the move, which came into effect on Thursday, 30 October, was brought forth to pave the way for an in-house investigation into the keeper’s conduct during the aforementioned match at Dandora Stadium.

Otieno, who was making his debut for the Sugar Millers, conceded twice in the 72nd and 95th minutes to ensure Mara settled for a 2-2 draw, prompting head coach Edward Manoah to describe the two goals as “very easy schoolboy mistakes.”

The former MOFA goalkeeper, in the lead-up to the first Sofapaka goal, advanced way past his line to allow Stanley Atsangu to finish past him, before parrying a stoppage-time free kick onto the path of Joseph Kuloba to tap into an empty net.

Speaking to Mozzart Sport, Mara Sugar CEO Ruth Omalla said she "cannot comment on news not yet made official by the club”, urging patience for the matter to be communicated through its handles.

However, Mozzart Sport sources verified the validity of the suspension, indicating that the goalkeeper had been isolated from the rest of the group, with an investigation into his conduct already underway.

In a shocking revelation, it is reported that Otieno only became a starter for the Sofapaka game after the preferred number one, Evans Omondi, went missing from camp the evening before the game, staying out for close to three hours, allegedly “taking tea.”

His absence from the night team meeting sparked suspicion, given his ties to Sofapaka as their former goalkeeper, forcing the technical bench to replace him with his understudy, Otieno.

The nature of the goals conceded by Otieno a day later, however, caught the attention of many associated with Mara Sugar, who suspected “something fishy.”

Despite raising suspicion early on, Mozzart Sport can confirm Omondi is still part of the team, even as Otieno’s future at the club hangs in the balance, pending formal investigation.
