Former Manchester United defender had his say on Marcus Rashford's recent off-field activities
Gary Neville believes there are a number of people connected to Manchester United who are briefing out against Marcus Rashford - as the forward continues to be the subject of criticism for his recent off-field behaviour.
The 26-year-old was the subject of an 'internal disciplinary' matter earlier this week after it was reported he spent Thursday night partying in Belfast, Northern Ireland before calling in sick for training on Friday morning. The forward has scored just four goals in 20 Premier League appearances so far this season.
A tough love, that's what Marcus Rashford needs at the moment. At least, according to former Manchester United defender and pow pundit Gary Neville.
Rashford was fined two weeks' wages and dropped for United's FA Cup fourth tie at Newport County on Sunday as a result of his actions, and on Wednesday, manager Erik ten Hag insisted the disciplinary matter was a closed case after the forward had 'taken responsibility' for his actions.
Neville, though, believes those inside the United dressing room are conspiring against the 26-year-old.
"This morning, reading the headlines in the newspapers and the stories, it feels to me that a few people are briefing against him because there are things in there that his teammates are sick of him. He's distant in the dressing room; there are things that have come out that mean there are people in the dressing room or connected to the dressing room," said Neville, speaking on the Stick to Football podcast.
"Sometimes you think about support in the dressing room, who is grabbing hold of him in that dressing room and saying, 'Sort your s**t out'."
