Sofapaka, Nzoia share spoils at Sudi

Sofapaka maintained their unbeaten start to the season as they claimed a point away from home against Nzoia Sugar following a barren draw staged at the Sudi Stadium on Friday 15 October.

Things went from bad to worse for Sofapaka as they named only two players on the bench after parading three in their last Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) action. 

Buoyed by their 3-1 win over Nairobi City Stars last time out, Sofapaka started the game on the front foot and could have broken the deadlock after just five minutes of play when David King’atua rounded the keeper but failed to guide his effort on target.

Nzoia settled into the game well after a rocky start and came inches to getting the opener when Kevin Juma unleashed a thunderbolt from 25 yards in the 31st minute that cannoned off the woodwork and came back into the field of play. 

Batoto ba Mungu continued to dictate proceedings in the latter stages of the first half but could not punch a hole in the Nzoia defence line as both teams went into the halftime break locked in a barren draw.

Alex Imbusia who was on the scoresheet in the emphatic win over City Stars could have added to his goal tally in the 56th minute but his shot was comfortably dealt with by Humphrey Katasi in goal.

Ibrahim Shikanda went for the jugular at the stroke of the hour mark when he withdrew James Kibande for Collins Wakhungu as he aimed to bolster his attack in a bid to return to winning ways after the opening defeat to Ulinzi Stars.

Sofapaka and Nzoia Sugar traded yellow cards in the final 10 minutes of the game as Randy Bakari was booked for a foul on Sofapaka's Joe Waithira while Nshirimimana David was also shown a yellow card after fouling Nzoia youngster Hassan Beja.

The nail-biting end to the game was brought to a halt with both teams unable to get a goal as the clash ended in a barren draw.
