Achesa says his team has to win on Monday against Nairobi City Stars

Sofapaka defender Titus Achesa says his team has to respond positively from last Thursday’s defeat to Gor Mahia by beating Nairobi City Stars on Monday when the two teams face-off in an FKF Premier League match.

Batoto ba Mungu suffered a 2-1 defeat in the hands of the record league champions in Wundanyi. Achesa scored the consolation for the hosts with Tito Okello and Alpha Onyango finding the back of the net for Gor.

The defeat continued to characterize what has been an inconsistent season so far for the Ken Odhiambo-coached team. Despite the heavy investment put in the team, they have not managed back-to-back wins all season.

Ahead of the Monday game, Achesa says the team is well prepared for the match and that the sole target is to beat Simba Wa Nairobi when the two teams face off at the Utalii Grounds.

“We are well prepared for Monday’s duel, we have no option but to go for the points. We want to revive our season and that will only be realistic when we begin with a win on Monday. We respect our opponents they have a good team but we want t get our season back on track thus a win we are going for,”Achesa told the club’s official website.

Sofapaka sits in the 10th position with 19 points after 16 rounds of league matches. Many had high expectations in the team before the 2020/21 campaign kicked off, they have however failed to leave to the hype but Achesa believes they still have time to make amends.

The season is far from the end, the second is just begging and it’s a huge opportunity for us to make it right. We want to compete to the last day of the season thus we are going to fight for maximum points to the end. Definitely yes, Sofapaka is a big club, and results are always expected week in week out. We haven’t been a good run of results and no doubt the pressure is on us to get the needed results,” he added.

The match between the two sides will kick off at 3 pm.
