After a season-long stint at Western Sydney Wanderers last year, he moved to Melbourne Victory, another team in the top division (A-League). And this Saturday, Mata scored a brace in his side's 3-1 win over their city rival, Melbourne City (part of the City Football Group).
The opener was truly sensational, as the veteran nailed it from some 30 yards to make it 1-0 with a single touch for the eruption in the stands. Mata added one more in the second half and Melbourne Victory proved their name, making a massive step towards the top of the table. They're currently in joint-third place, six points below the league leaders, Newcastle Jets. And Mata? He's a living legend, no doubt there.
