Smells like title spirit - are the Emirates sending off future champions?

Matches like these can be the hardest — Arsenal, for the final time this season at home, host Burnley, a future Championship side

Arsenal have the chance to edge one step closer to the Premier League title when they host already-relegated Burnley at the Emirates Stadium tonight.

Mikel Arteta’s side came through a tense battle at the London Stadium last weekend, beating West Ham after a largely frustrating performance despite a strong opening spell. It looked as though they were set to drop points until Leandro Trossard stepped up late on, while Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time equaliser was ruled out for a foul on David Raya.

The VAR decision, widely debated as one of the most significant in Premier League history, ultimately swung in Arsenal’s favour and kept their title push on track. Even so, there is still work to be done in the final stretch.

Burnley’s relegation has already been confirmed, and they’ve managed just one league win in 2026. Still, they showed resilience last weekend by holding Aston Villa to a draw at home. Under interim boss Michael Jackson, the Clarets have endured a difficult campaign overall, though they have remained competitive in spells.

Manchester City — and many neutral observers — will be hoping for a Burnley upset on Monday, as any slip from Arsenal could reopen the title race. However, City’s 3–0 win over Crystal Palace means Arsenal cannot seal the championship on Monday night, though a victory combined with a City stumble against Bournemouth on Tuesday would still hand them the title.

The league leaders have responded strongly to their defeat at the Etihad last month, putting together three straight wins to put themselves in a commanding position. The question now is whether they can maintain their composure against a much weaker opponent.

Memories remain of the costly 3–3 draw with already-relegated Southampton in the 2022–23 season, which damaged their title bid — but this current Arsenal group has shown greater resilience in recent weeks.

Arteta has stuck with the same starting XI for three consecutive matches, though he will be forced into at least one change after Ben White suffered a serious knee injury that rules him out for the rest of the season and the upcoming World Cup. His absence also comes after he worked his way back into Thomas Tuchel’s plans.

Jurrien Timber is not yet fully fit but could return in time for the Champions League final, meaning Cristhian Mosquera is expected to step in at right-back against Burnley. Riccardo Calafiori is a doubt, while Mikel Merino may be available again after a long absence with a foot injury and could return to the bench.

Otherwise, Arsenal are in strong health, and with a break in the schedule, Arteta is unlikely to make major changes, with Lewis-Skelly expected to keep his place in midfield. Burnley, meanwhile, could field an unchanged side from their 2–2 draw with Aston Villa.

For the visitors, Jackson is still without Jordan Beyer and Connor Roberts, while Josh Cullen remains sidelined with a long-term knee injury. Hannibal Mejbri is also a doubt after picking up a knock in the Villa match.
