From new players who stole the limelight to new table toppers, Mozzart Sport digs deep to analyse the effects of the match week.

Gor Mahia make early title statement

FKF Premier League giants Gor Mahia were the biggest winners of matchweek eight after securing a 2-0 win over reigning league champions Kenya Police FC.

The win was so significant to K’Ogalo as it was not only a direct title challenger but also took them to the top of the league with 16 points from seven matches.

K’Ogalo are on a mission this season to reclaim the league title from Police and return to continental football, and wins over direct challengers will come in handy in that venture.

Despite the league being barely quarter-way through, the 21-time record league champions have shown early signs of dominance.

The Charles Akonnor-coached side currently boasts the joint-best defensive record, having conceded just two goals and equally the joint-best attack that has scored 11 goals so far.

As it stands, the attacking trio of Felix Oluoch, Ebenezer Adukwaw and Sharif Musa seem unstoppable in the league, the latter justifying his inclusion into the national team, Harambee Stars.

AFC Leopards deflated

While K’Ogalo were rejoicing, the same could not be said of their arch-rivals, AFC Leopards. Ingwe’s resurgence was deflated by Mara Sugar FC, who left it late to hand them a 2-0 beating at the Awendo Green Stadium on Saturday, 8 November.

Leopards went into the match on a three-match winning streak but blew an opportunity to go second on the log courtesy of a brace from Dennis Cheruiyot in the 88th and 94th minutes respectively.

Additionally, each Leopard player lost a potential Ksh9,500 in winning allowance, and as such, their compounding winning allowance reverts back to Ksh6,500

Relief for Shabana and Okidi

Shabana FC found their winning touch and managed to smile again after ending their five-match winless streak that included three losses with a 1-0 victory over a disarmed Ulinzi Stars.

The Sunday afternoon clash saw Shabana take an early 15th-minute lead through Mark Okola and managed to keep a clean sheet for the second successive game.

The win was even more significant for coach Peter Okidi, after being under pressure from fans who were asking for his dismissal following the poor run.

The victory, therefore, reduced the pressure on his shoulders and earned him more time at the Gusii-based club as he seeks to strengthen his team, which will not be in action in the coming week due to the international break.

Nairobi United possesses a lethal attack

Nairobi United once again unleashed their terrifying attack on Kariobangi Sharks with a 4-2 thumping in a match played on Saturday, 8 November.

The four goals marked Naibois’ 10th goal in six matches, making them the team with the highest goal per game ratio in the league.

The attacking trio of Ovella Ochieng, Michael Karamor and Dancun Omalla, coupled with the creativity of Enock Machaka, has proved to be too much for FKFPL teams to handle.

If the reigning Mozzart Bet Cup champions manage to reduce the number of goals they concede, they will significantly increase their chances of clinching the league title.

The Nicholas Muyoti-coached side is currently third on the log standings with 12 points, four shy of league leaders Gor Mahia, but have played a match less.

Slow start for Bandari coach continues

Bandari FC head coach Mohamed Borji’s poor start to life in the FKF Premier League continues after once again failing to guide the coastal side to a victory.

The Dockers were lucky to secure a draw after Abdalla Hassan’s 94th-minute goal denied KCB FC the maximum points.

With his predecessor, Ken Odhiambo, sent packing after just two games in the season, Borji’s three points out of a possible 12 and only two goals scored are something that must worry the Bandari management.

Posta Rangers' winless run extends

After an impressive start to the season that saw them pick up 10 points from the first four matches and sit at the summit of the league table, Posta Rangers seem to have run out of gas and once again failed to secure three points.

In what is now a four-match winless run, the Mailmen suffered a 2-0 defeat to Sofapaka on Monday afternoon and are now sixth on the log standings.
