There were several talking points from FKF Premier League's Matchweek 11, which went on successfully, save for the fact that the Mashemeji Derby pitting Gor Mahia against their arch-rivals, AFC Leopards, was postponed.

From teams that failed to ascend to the top of the table to those that secured statement wins and others that continue to struggle, the week provided all the ingredients of a packed league fixture.

Upon the conclusion of the Matchweek, Mozzart Sport analysed some of the lessons picked as expressed in this article.

Inconsistent Tusker bounce back

League giants Tusker FC bounced back from two consecutive losses to secure an important away win against Mara Sugar FC on Saturday, 29 November at the Awendo Green Stadium.

The Brewers have been blowing hot and cold this season, winning four, losing as many and drawing three of their 11 league matches, which now sees them sit sixth on the log standings with 15 points, four shy of Gor Mahia, who have played two matches less.

The win, courtesy of a Thomas Omole header, provided a sigh of relief to coach Charles Okere, who had started to feel the heat from fans once again.

The former Harambee Starlets tactician will be hoping that his team becomes consistent, starting with bagging maximum points when they host Ulinzi Stars on Friday, 5 December at St. Sebastian Park, Murang'a.

Competitive League season

The 2025/26 league season has proven to be very competitive, a fact that became clear in Matchweek 11.

After 11 rounds of matches, only eight points separate league leaders Gor Mahia from Mathare United, who are in the relegation zone.

A win for any team brings massive changes to the league table, and vice versa. Despite having a poor run, Shabana needed just a single win to move them from 10th to fourth before settling in at fifth following Posta's win on Monday.

In the leading pack, there is no sizable gap between teams, and none of them shows signs of having a big or an unassailable gap, at least by the end of the first leg.

Michira-less Shabana secure vital win

Gusii-based Shabana FC managed to secure a vital win on the road against defending champions Kenya Police FC without their star Brian Michira, who continues to nurse an injury.

A 28th-minute strike by Gilbert Abala was all that the Glamour Boys needed to walk home with three points from a match that grabbed headlines for what Shabana fans termed as exploitation from the Law Enforcers on ticket prices.

Police priced regular tickets at Ksh500, the highest in the league so far, while those for VIP and VVIP retailed at Ksh2500 and Ksh3000 respectively.

Shabana will welcome back head coach Peter Okidi for their next match, at home to Bidco United. The tactician has been away with the Junior Stars in the unsuccessful U17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) CECAFA qualifiers.

Homeboyz/Police blow chance to go top

In a week where league leaders Gor Mahia were inactive due to the postponed Mashemeji Derby, both Kenya Police FC and Kakamega Homeboyz had a chance to ascend to the top of the table but blew it.

For Homeboyz, it was the third time they had blown that chance, the latest being after they were held to a 1-1 draw by KCB FC.

Police, on the other hand, suffered defeat at the hands of Shabana. Homeboyz are now tied with K’Ogalo at 19 points but with a lower goal difference, two points above Police.

APS Bomet slowly catching up

League newbies APS Bomet continue to experience the Mozzart Bet sponsorship effect after battling out to a draw against Sofapaka.

The Law Enforcers began the season on a slow note, losing their first three matches, but they are now beginning to pick up points.

In a week that the club secured a Ksh11 million sponsorship courtesy of one of the leading gaming firms, Mozzart Bet, they collected four points on the road that unhooked them from the bottom of the table.

With the financial backing, the club is slowly but steadily rising up to the standards of the league.

Interestingly, Nairobi has proven to be a safe haven for the Bomet-based club as they have collected eight of their nine points from the city.

Posta begin the 'Korea' era with a win

Newly appointed Posta Rangers interim coach Collins 'Korea' Omondi led the team to a 1-0 victory over Bidco United in his first match in charge since taking over from Sammy 'Pamzo' Omollo, who is headed to APS Bomet.

The win ended the Mailmen's six-match winless streak and, in turn, extended Bidco’s winless streak to six, with coach Anthony Akhulia threatening to axe underperforming players.
