The forward secured his first call up to the team in May this year and has been involved in six matches

Kakamega Homeboyz forward Moses Shumah has pledged to work harder in a bid to reclaim his place in the national team Harambee Stars.

Shumah was among the three players who did not make it to the Stars' traveling party to West Africa for the opening 2026 World Cup qualifier matches against Gabon and Seychelles.

Other players who did not make it to Firat’s final list are promising Murang’a Seal winger Erick Balecho and Gor Mahia left-back Geoffrey Ochieng.

Stars kicked off their qualification campaign on the wrong footing after going down 2-1 to Gabon on Thursday at Stade de Franceville.

Firat and the team will be seeking redemption when they face Seychelles in a Group F game that is expected to be played in Ivory Coast on Monday.

The Turkish tactician has been rating Shumah high if the number of call-ups and minutes he has handed the forward in the past is anything to go by.

However, he couldn’t reserve a place in the team leaving the striker with the task of banging more goals in the league and winning the trust of Firat again.

Shumah is the second-best scorer in the league courtesy of the five goals he has scored in eleven matches. He trails Gor forward Benson Omala by two goals.

I took the decision by the coach to drop me positively. The ball is on my court to prove myself again. I will have to work harder so as to regain my place in the team,” said Shumah.

The goal poacher landed his first Stars call-up in May this year ahead of the Four Nations tournament held in Mauritius.

He scored on his debut against Pakistan and ever since, he was involved in the subsequent five matches against Mauritius, Iran, Qatar, South Sudan and Russia.

He hopes to make a comeback in rounds three and four of the qualifiers scheduled for June next year.
