The striker reckons that his excellent performance at club level will make him a regular starter on the national team

Kakamega Homeboyz forward Moses Shumah wants to bridge the goal gap between him and on-form Gor Mahia forward Benson Omala and win the race to the ‘Golden Boot’ at the end of the season.

Shumah has three goals from the first seven games of the season, four off Omala, who has been clinical in front of the goal in the campaign, as the former Western Stima player appears a favorite for the award.

Omala missed the individual award by a whisker last season as Elvis Rupia, formerly of Kenya Police, scored 26 goals, one more than his tally.

Shumah, who has been facing competition for playing time at Homeboyz from Ugandan forward Davies Kasirye, revealed that his eyes were fixed on the top scorer’s award.

“My biggest goal this season is winning the boot at the end of it. I have been working hard in training and on match days so as to be in the right shape. I understand that I have to be consistent if I am to land the award, as there are equally talented strikers in the league who are doing the same,” said Shumah.

The towering player realized a breakthrough in his career last year after earning his first Harambee Stars call-up and scoring his first goal for the national team.

On top of that, he was named Mozzart Bet Cup’s Most Valuable Player last season, which was his first in the top league.

Since breaking to the team, Shumah has cemented his place in the national team in all the FIFA international weeks where Kenya has been playing friendly matches.

Shumah reckons that his excellent performance at club level will make him a regular starter on the national team.

“I want to remain focused and uphold high levels of professionalism. I have to keep on working hard and scoring goals so as to retain my place in the team,” he stated.
