Shikanda rued the chances his team threw away against AFC Leopards.

Nzoia Sugar FC head coach Ibrahim Shikanda says his side went down to AFC Leopards because of their wasteful nature upfront.

The Bungoma-based club suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Ingwe on Saturday afternoon at Ruaraka Grounds. Caleb Olilo’s first-half strike settled the closely fought match and in the process lifted Ingwe to second in the log, Nzoia on the other hand dropped to 14th.

Speaking after the match, Shikanda said Leopards won because they utilized the chances they created. He rued the chances that his team missed. Hillary Simiyu. Tyson Kapchanga, Felicien Okanda, and James Kibande were all guilty of throwing away easy chances.

We thank God for the good game we played today. AFC Leopards got their opportunities and they scored. We got many opportunities and we failed to utilize them and that made the difference, not taking our chances cost us. We now go back to the drawing board and make amends for the mistakes we made.” he said after the match.

The former Kenyan international further admitted that his side’s style of play was not impressive. He believes that the seven-week break due to the Covid-19 pandemic affected his team.

We have to go back and work, the break has affected us because when you look at how we play, there’s a difference from how we used to play just before the break. We will have to fine-tune our style of play,” he added.

Shikanda was also not as pleased by his players as he says they did not follow some of his instructions.

I am not happy with how they (players) responded. They did not follow instructions, we will have to go back and start all over again,” he concluded.

Next for Nzoia is a home match against struggling Mathare United.
