The match began on an even note, both teams struggling to control the game with quick change of possessions in midfield. Sofapaka had a flurry of corners but they could not utilize any as Sharks defended their near post.

Sharks grew into the game and got their first chance in the 21st minute when Rising Stars midfielder Humphrey Aroko unleashed a shot that went inches wide.

Buoyed by the chance, the William Muluya-coached side inserted their dominance in the game, pinning Sofapaka in their own half.

Aroko once again got a chance to break the deadlock in the 33rd minute but his shot from outside the box was well saved by Victor Kamungo in the Sofapaka goal.

Sharks survived a scare in the 43rd minute when Ian Karani headed the ball back to his goalkeeper Collins Omondi, but it went past the goalkeeper and luckily went out for a corner.

Sofapaka were the recipient of the last chance of the game when Victor Odhiambo found a loose ball outside the box, took a shot on goal but Omondi was steady to prevent any harm with the half time whistle blowing thereafter.

In the second half, Sharks got the first opportunity of the game when Stephen Mbulere brought a cutback on Aroko but his shot was too feeble to trouble.

The rest of the half match saw the battle taking place in the midfield with both teams failing to create significant chances to take the lead as they settled for a draw.

Elsewhere, at Awendo Green Stadium, Murang'a Seal soothed the fatigue of the over 430km journey to Awendo by securing a 3-1 win over hosts Mara Sugar.

Seal took the lead in the 31st minute through Joe Waithira who also doubled their lead 10 minutes later from the penalty spot but Jimmy Owili halved the deficit in the 45th minute.

In the second half, Lucas Maina restored Seal’s two-goal lead in the 68th minute as Seal went on to claim victory that propelled them to ninth on the log with 18 points, same with Mara Sugar.
