Sharks bite KCB in Kasarani

Kariobangi Sharks compounded KCB's misery with a 3-0 win on Sunday to move to within two points off the Bankers.

KCB failed to take advantage of Tusker's loss yesterday as they fall to Kariobangi Sharks leaving them with only one point in the last three games.

Two early first-half goals set the tone for an impressive win against KCB who had a day to forget in office against Kariobangi Sharks at Kasarani Annex stadium. James Mazembe added a third in the second half to ensure Sharks walked away with the three points after a comfortable 3-0 lead.

Five points separated second-placed KCB when they hosted fifth-placed Sharks in Sunday's action in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

Sharks got off the mark as early as the first minute of the game when they made their first forward foray into the KCB box. Shaphan Oyugi's shot was blocked for the first corner of the game. In form striker and league top scorer, Erick Kapaito fed on the scraps from the resulting corner to tap in his fourteenth goal of the season and give Sharks a 1-0 lead.

The early goal did not seem to have sprung the Bankers into life as Sharks continued heaping pressure on them. Halfway through the first half in the 23rd minute, Sharks were awarded a free-kick just outside the KCB goal. Patilah Omoto and Boniface Onyango lined up to take the set-piece. From something that looked like a trained routine, Omoto set up Onyango who unleashed a thunderbolt past the hapless Joseph Okoth in goal who could only watch as the ball flew past him giving Sharks a 2-0 lead.

William Muluya's side limited KCB to half chances outside the box that did not pose any serious threat to the goalkeeper Brandon Obiero who had little to deal with. The game went into the half time break with Sharks having a 2-0 advantage in the game.

Upon resumption of the second half, Zedekiah Zico Otieno went for the jugular as he made a double substitution; introducing captain Simon Munala and striker Derrick Otanga for Samuel Mwangi and Reagan Otieno, hoping for an impact from the subs.

KCB pressured in the opening ten minutes of the second half but their pressure dissipated gradually and allowed Sharks back into the game. The third goal came in the 67th minute after James Mazembe, who had caused havoc in the first half with his skills and trickery, wriggled his way past Baraka Badi and shot directly on goal to give Sharks a 3-0 lead.

A cheap possession loss almost gifted Sharks a fourth goal when Erick Kapaito intercepted a build-up play from KCB. Joseph Okoth in goal read the danger early and raced off his line to prevent the striker from reaching onto the ball to save them from going 4-0 down.

That was the last telling action of the game as Sharks walked away with a comfortable 3-0 win.

Posta Rangers 1-2 Sofapaka

In another game played at the Kasarani Main Stadium, Sofapaka edged Posta Rangers 2-1. First-half goals by Titus Achesa and Lawrence Juma put Batoto Ba Mungu in the lead heading into the breather. Jackson Dwang pulled one back for the Mail Men in the second half but Sofapaka held on to pick the three points.
