Shabana coach keen on dethroning Kenya Police FC next season

Shabana FC head coach Peter Okidi has set his sights on the FKF Premier League title next season, after guiding the Kisii-based outfit to a much-improved campaign that saw them remain in the title race until the third-last round of fixtures.
Currently fifth on the table with 50 points from 33 matches, Shabana’s resurgence marks a sharp contrast to last season when they were locked in a relegation battle until the final day.
This season, the team has shown consistency both at home and on the road—an upturn in form that coincided with Okidi’s appointment earlier in the campaign following the departure of Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omolo.
Looking ahead to the 2025/26 season, Okidi believes his side can mount a serious title charge.
“We had a slow start to the season, but finishing in the top five is a big achievement. Next season, we aim to go even further—if everything falls into place, we’ll be going for the title,” he said after Sunday’s narrow 1-0 defeat to champions Kenya Police FC.
Reflecting on the loss, sealed by a Brian Okoth header that handed Police their maiden league title, Okidi praised his players for their effort despite the result.
“We played well overall. We created several chances but could not convert. I also feel we were denied a clear penalty in the final minutes. That said, the performance was commendable,” he noted.
Okidi also extended his congratulations to Kenya Police FC for their historic triumph.
“Congratulations to the Police for winning the league. They have worked hard all season and deserve the title. Credit to everyone at the club,” he said.
