Mwalala, standing in for head coach Peter Okidi, who is away on duty with the Kenya U17s, led The Glamour Boys to a big 1-0 win over defending champions Police on the road, a result that lifted the former to fourth on the log.

The win, settled by new signing Gilbert Abala in the first half, meant Shabana ended their four-game stretch on the road without a loss, having drawn twice and won twice.

Quite significantly, Shabana’s time away provided them a chance to recover from a horrible spell at Gusii Stadium, which had seen them lose three straight October fixtures at their backyard.

That run of form was not lost on Mwalala as he spoke on the significance of his side’s latest victory.

“It is a big win, considering the fact that we are going back home, to a place where we have lost our last three matches,” Mwalala told Azam TV, referring to Shabana’s fixture against Bidco United at Gusii Stadium on Sunday, 6 December.

“The win is important because it rebuilds trust with our fans back at home, that we can also win there, despite it being a struggle beforehand.”

Reflecting on the tactics deployed in winning fashion at Police Sacco Stadium, Mwalala was in praise of his players, saying they stuck to the desired plan.

“We did so much work transitioning defense to attack, and I am glad that the players pulled it off,” Mwalala said. “We trained all week on defending the flanks, because we knew Police were dangerous in those areas.

Our biggest worry after taking the lead was allowing them back, but we did well to get through those moments of panic. There was no luck in that,” he added.
