Macclesfield FC would like to add veteran striker Papiss Cisse to their squad

Former Newcastle United striker Papiss Cisse, who is currently a free agent, has been training with Macclesfield FC, a non-league club in the seventh tier of English football. The 38-year-old striker left Amiens SC in the summer after a season in Ligue 2, where he was the top scorer for the French club with 12 goals.

Macclesfield FC was formed on the ashes of Macclesfield Town, the club that was dissolved in 2020 after financial troubles and has been on an impressive journey, securing back-to-back promotions since its inception in the North West Counties Premier Division in 2020. The club is currently in the Northern Premier League and has notable figures like former Premier League player Robbie Savage as their director of football and Alex Bruce as the manager.

Cisse had a noteworthy stint in the Premier League with Newcastle United, where he spent five seasons and scored 44 goals. One of the memorable moments during his time at St James' Park was his wonder goal against Chelsea in 2012, which is still fondly remembered by football fans.

After departing Newcastle in 2016, he continued his football journey by joining Shandong Luneng during the expansion of the Chinese Super League. He later moved to Turkey, where he had spells with clubs like Fenerbahce, Alanyaspor, and Caykur Rizespor, showcasing his versatility and experience across different football landscapes. If he decides to join the club, it would be considered a significant signing for the ambitious non-league side.

The club's ability to attract players like Cisse and their recent successes showcase their growing influence in non-league football. Macclesfield FC recently won against Whitby, with one of the goals scored by John Rooney, the brother of former England captain Wayne Rooney.
