Burly defender hopes to pick from where he left last season

The proximity to Harambee Stars coaches and higher probability of winning titles compelled towering Gabriel Wandera to ditch Nzoia Sugar for Bidco United.

The Thika based club strengthened their rear by acquiring the defender from Nzoia, beating a number of teams that had registered interest in his signature.

Wandera said Bidco had the capacity to win titles if their last season's debut in the top flight and run in the Football Kenya Federation Cup where they finished third is anything to go by.

The central defender noted that teams that staged a superb show in the league and Cup have been contributing a large chunk of players to the national team thus the move.

"I joined Bidco to quench my thirst for trophies as well as make to the national team. The trend has always been when a team does well in the league and Cup, most of their players get call ups," he disclosed.

Having scored five goals last season, the former Tusker man who missed their opening game against Vihiga Bullets at the Bukhungu Stadium owing to a registration hitch said he was keen on extending his goal scoring prowess from the spot and setpieces.

Wandera who will face competition for playing time from Francis Oduor, Anthony Simasi and Collins Okumu said he was working his socks off to win the starting nod in their next game against Bandari.

"Top in my priority list has always been keeping cleansheets but when the opportunity to help the team win matches presents itself, I'll gladly take it. I hope that I will surpass my last season's goal tally," he said.

Wandera broke to the top flight in 2017 when Nzoia acquired his services from Busia Ajax. Prior to his stint with Ajax, he had featured for Yatta Combined.
