Scott has the best job in the world - and he's just signed up for another year

Imagine being Scott Carson. You're a healthy 37-year-old guy with a wife and four children. You're doing alright for yourself, your family lives in a lovely, spacious house - and you drive a brand new car. Then you go to work to do your job: being a backup goalkeeper for Manchester City.

You train almost every day in a state-of-the-art training centre, surrounded by top-class teammates, coaches, sports scientists and highly-qualified medical staff. A team of chefs is preparing your meals while you're hanging out with a bunch of guys who seem to be winning the world's most popular football league every year. It's a nice job, isn't it?

Carson, the former England international goalkeeper, has signed another contract to stay at Manchester City until June 2024. The experienced professional initially joined the Cityzens on loan in 2019 until the end of the 2020/21 season. When his contract with Derby County ended in 2021, he signed for City on a free transfer - and has clearly conducted himself in a manner which prompted all the coaches, including Pep Guardiola, to say "yep, this is our guy". He may have only played two competitive games in four years, but who cares?!

"I'm excited to be staying at City for the 2023/24 season. I love working with Pep, Xabi Mancisidor and our incredible players every day. Hopefully I can help all of our goalkeepers be at their best."

City's Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain, congratulated Carson on his new contract and underlined the great professional relationship between the journeyman goalie and the rest of the squad in Manchester.

"Scott is a real asset to our squad and enjoys a close working relationship with the goalkeepers and coaches. We're very happy he has signed a contract extension. I look forward to seeing him support his teammates and train well to ensure he is ready to perform on the pitch when called upon."

The guy has started his professional journey in 2003 with Leeds United and has played for numerous clubs in the meantime: Liverpool, Sheffield Wednesday, Charlton, Aston Villa, WBA, Wigan, Derby - and even Bursaspor in Turkey. He's been a professional footballer for two decades - and is clearly doing something right.
