School Games: Vihiga County representatives flatter as Kakamega County shines

Secondary Ball Games are gathering pace at regional level with teams chasing National final slots

Kenya secondary School Soccer Games regional level entered the second day on Thursday with matches staged across various schools and stadiums in the country as young talents battled for a ticket to the National School ball games.

Western Region

Kakamega County schools carried the day in boys football category as Musingu High School and Shanderema Secondary School dismantled their opponents to rise high their stake of advancing to the quarter finals.

Two goals from Green Commandos red hot finisher Mark Shaban were enough for Shanderema to humble Vihiga County representatives Emusire High School in an early kick off at Approved School Grounds Kakamega.

Kakamega school's riot over opponents was evident as Benard Mwainamo's Boys Musingu High School recorded a narrow win against Bungoma County's Kibabii School.

Busia power house Bujumba High School started the regional games with a narrow 1-0 win aganist Vihiga school before sharing spoils with Kibabii.

Kevin Asuba charges Shanderema were held to a barren draw in their second match of the day that saw them square out aganist Lukhuna Secondary School.

Following Thursday's turn of events, both Vihiga County representatives Emusire and Vihiga face elimination from the competition with Musingu High School and Shanderema Secondary School well placed for the quarter finals.

Girls

In the girls category, former national champions Red Commandos Butere Girls' dominated the day whitewashing Katakwa girls 8-0 while Madira Girls got the better part of Moi Kamusinga Girls from Bungoma handing them a 7-0 defeat.

In other matches, Ibubi girls lost 1-0 to Brenda girls before bouncing back with a 4-1 victory over Katakwa, Bishop Njenga piled more misery on Moi Kamusinga bottling them 4-1. Busia champions Chakol fell 1-2 to unstoppable Madira Girls.

Rift Valley Region

Amos Wanjala and Kevin Opiyo were on target as Solidarity Boys St. Antony Kitale humbled Ololunga Boys 2-0 and book a slot in the quarter finals of the on going school games. The football powerhouse remains unbeaten since the start of the games at Zonal level and are yet to concede a goal since the start of the current campaign.

In the girls category, cup favorites Wiyeta Girls booked a spot in the quarter finals and are joined by Kaplong, Itigo, Kamoi, Nadokol, Uhuru, Trinity and Falling Waters.
