The Brown Saints, fondly known as JOBO, cruised into the 2025 national finals after defeating Nyanza region representatives and tournament debutants Agai High School 3-0 in a spirited semifinal clash at Mumias Sports Complex on Friday, 1 August.

Collins Mwalati, Shadrack Kiboi, and the red-hot Instin Simiyu were on target for the two-time Rift Valley region champions, sealing a historic first-ever appearance in the KSSSA national final after narrowly missing out last year.

Under the watchful eye of Chief Principal Cosmas Nabungolo, JOBO started the match with purpose and precision. The boys from Kitale wasted no time in asserting themselves.

After just seven minutes, Mwalati pounced on a quick flowing move between Rixon Simiyu and Instin to tap home from close range, igniting early celebrations on the JOBO bench.

Before Agai could regroup, JOBO were at it again, pressing with intent and pinning the Green Cardinals into their own half.

The relentless pressure bore fruit in the 13th minute when Kiboi latched onto a fast ball and doubled their lead with a fine finish.

Despite the early setback, Agai refused to buckle.

Moses Otieno, Alex Ouma, Onyango Rodgers, and Mwajuma Elkan dug deep in midfield, covering every blade of grass and challenging every 50/50 ball.

They battled bravely, slowly gaining a foothold in the game as they looked to claw their way back.

Agai’s push was nearly rewarded midway through the first half when they won a free kick just outside the box, but Otieno’s curling effort drifted inches wide.

Minutes later, another set-piece opportunity by Mwajuma also missed the target by a whisker, to the visible frustration of the technical bench.

At the back, JOBO were marshalled expertly by Charles Ochieng, who remained composed under pressure.

Defensive midfielder Frank Alubi broke up play efficiently, allowing Tony Mwale and Sabal Lugenda to launch quick counters that kept Agai on their toes.

The third goal, however, proved the backbreaker.

Just as the game seemed destined to end 2-0, Simiyu, already with six goals in the tournament, found a pocket of space between the Agai defence and smashed in his seventh and JOBO’s third of the day.

It was the final nail in the coffin.

As Simiyu wheeled away in celebration, a section of Agai supporters began trickling out of the stadium, sensing the outcome was sealed.

Even JOBO fans could not believe what they had just witnessed; their team was now one win away from a national title.

The match still had its moments, with both sides missing late free kicks, but the result was already decided.

The win sets up a mouthwatering final showdown against Musingu High School, who knocked JOBO out at the semifinal stage last year.

With neither of the two finalists having ever lifted the national trophy, the 2025 KSSSA finals will crown a brand-new champion, a moment destined for the history books.

Butere to face Madira in all-Western Girls’ final at KSSSA Nationals

Defending champions Butere Girls will get a golden opportunity to clinch a third consecutive Kenya Secondary School Sports Association (KSSSA) national title when they face Western region rivals Madira Girls in the finals on Saturday at the Mumias Sports Complex.

The Red Commandos stormed into the finals in style, dismantling Nyanza champions Kobala 3-0 in a dominant semifinal clash held at the Outer Field, Kakamega High School.

Goals from Diana Onyango, Mentrine Kitiavi, and Celestine Aludo sealed the emphatic victory for Butere, who are chasing a rare national title hat-trick.

In the other semifinal, Madira edged Rift Valley champions Nasokol 2-1 in a tightly contested encounter played at the Rugby Field, also in Kakamega High School.

For Madira, the final represents more than just silverware.

It is a shot at history, a first-ever national title, and a chance to finally overcome their Butere hoodoo.

The two sides have met four times in the last two years, including three finals, with Butere emerging victorious on each occasion.

This all-Western final is expected to draw huge crowds and renewed energy at Mumias, with both schools enjoying massive regional support.
