Salah makes perfect redemption as Ekitike's double takes down Seagulls
Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 13.12.25. | 20:03
The Egyptian came on for injured Joe Gomez in the 26th minute, and assisted Ekitike for Liverpool's second goal (2-0)
Just what the Reds desperately needed! A win, their only second in the last six EPL games, and Mo Salah's triumphant return to the squad marked Liverpool's 2-0 Premier League home win on Saturday night against Brighton and Hove Albion.
The packed Anfield saw a somewhat strange game, as Arne Slot's men came in front after only 46 seconds through Hugo Ekitike. A superb, robust finish resulted in an opener, which made Liverpool's life much simpler.

Liverpool hadn't scored a first half goal in the league since 1st November - but Hugo Ekitike wastes no time ending that run against Brighton! pic.twitter.com/YYaSBmIhjS
That said, the visitors were far from sluggish tonight, but the Seagulls just couldn't find the back of the net despite a handful of more than excellent chances. Alisson denied Gomez's first-half effort, while the latter missed a sitter early in the second half, which could have significantly affected the game if it had gone in.
It was a perfect low cross to the far post, as Konate couldn't get anywhere near it, but Gomez's shot went wide.
The punishment was instant and brutal on the other end.
Salah crossed it to the far post from the corner kick and unmarked Ekitike had no trouble in burying it for 2-0 and an almost palpable relief.

The same relief that almost everyone at Anfield previously felt in the 26th minute, when Slot decided to provide Salah with a chance to come on for the injured Joe Gomez.
Liverpool fans cheered as the 33-year-old Egyptian forward came on. It was his first time in a Reds squad since claiming he had been "thrown under the bus" by the club following last weekend's 3-3 draw with Leeds.
Previously, Salah did not travel to Italy for their 1-0 Champions League win over Inter Milan. He is due to head to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on Monday.
