Okidi’s recognition comes after an impressive run that saw him edge out strong competition from fellow tacticians, including Patrick Odhiambo of Kakamega Homeboyz, William Muluya of Kariobangi Sharks, and Gor Mahia's Charles Akonnor, all of whom enjoyed commendable performances during the same period.
Throughout February, Okidi orchestrated a flawless run with Shabana, guiding the side to four consecutive victories.
The Kisii-based outfit secured narrow but crucial 1-0 wins over Bandari FC, Tusker FC, and Mathare United, before sealing a convincing 2-0 triumph against Posta Rangers.
Notably, the team scored five goals and conceded none, highlighting a well-drilled defensive unit and tactical discipline.
That remarkable run propelled Shabana into third place on 40 points in the highly competitive 18-team league standings, firmly placing them among the title contenders at the time.
Despite this success, Okidi’s tenure came to an abrupt end following a dip in form that saw the club suffer consecutive defeats, including a heavy 5-1 loss to AFC Leopards and a 2-1 setback against Kariobangi Sharks.
The club hierarchy’s decision to part ways with the experienced tactician has since sparked debate among fans and pundits alike.
For his efforts, Okidi receives a personalised trophy and a cash prize of Ksh75,000, becoming the first coach in recent memory to claim the accolade while unattached.
