Rotten Boots: Arsenal and Man Utd top scorers worse than ever

Reading Time: 2min | Mon. 26.05.25. | 12:07

Kai Havertz and Bruno Fernandes scored 17 Premier League goals altogether, which is both shameful and a warning sign for those two clubs

Arsenal and Manchester United ended their respective seasons without a trophy, failing to redeem themselves for unsuccessful Premier League campaigns with a piece of European silverware which would made all the difference.

What lacked? The answer is pretty simple, actually - goals.

It's especially visible in the EPL, where these two teams didn't have a single player with double digits in scored goals! The Gunners' top scorer was Kai Havertz, with just nine goals. This is the first time since 1923-24 that the Gunners haven't had a player score 10+ league goals in a campaign!

On the other hand, Bruno Fernandes was the Red Devils' best scorer during the recently ended season, with just eight goals! The last time Manchester United's top league scorer netted fewer than 10 goals in a season was during the 1973–74 campaign, when Sammy McIlroy led the team with just six goals in the First Division.

In the Premier League era (since 1992–93), the lowest top scorer tally before the recent season was in 2018–19, when Paul Pogba scored 16 goals.

This deplorable output placed Havertz and Fernandes in 30th and 35th place on this EPL season's top scorer list, respectively. Even joint, their 17 goals would put them in 7th place, behind Mohamed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23), Erling Haaland (22), Bryan Mbeumo (20), Chris Wood (20), and Yoanne Wissa (19).

Without any further analysis, these numbers definitely show that both Arsenal and Manchester United desperately need some reinforcements in the attacking line ahead of the next season. Matheus Cunha, Viktor Gyokeres, and some other names are considered potential signings who would have a serious task—to transform those toothless attacks into true beasts.
