After taking over Birmingham, former Manchester striker lost two games in a row
When something starts the wrong way, it usually end that way. And when some American takes a European football club, it usually ends up badly (Chelsea, Lyon). Just look at Birmingham. The Americans took over, even the greatest player in history of American football (NFL) Tom Brady is a minority shareholder, and what they did? They sacked a coach who was doing a good job in order to bring in former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney and boost their marketing. Nobody can surely say that this will be a disaster, but so far it looks that way, since Rooney was booed last night by the home fans, after only two games. Ouch.

"Wayne is a born winner. We believe, with the support of his coaching staff, the club, and our supporters, he will take Blues forward on the next stage of our journey" said co-owner Tom Wagner just two weeks ago. Maybe he was referring to Rooney as a player, which he certainly was, but as a coach, former United star is average at best. He left United DC in USA in order to take over Birmingham City, but he left as a looser. During the last 20 games with DC United, Rooney won only in five of them, and the losing streak continued in England, where he lost the first two games – Middleborough 1-1 and Hull at home 2-0, which irritated the fans already. Rooney was reportedly told to 'f*** off back to America' after this loss. Birmingham are now in 12th place, while they were sixth before Eustace was sacked.
“You need to be brave in taking the ball, but it's clear from the first two games that the players aren't comfortable doing that. So there will be slight adjustments of course because we need to pick up points as well. I can get players up the pitch, boot the ball up the pitch and look to pick up second balls, but we need to get the balance right. This is on me - maybe I've asked them to do too much and I take that responsibility. We're asking them to play out from the back and be more front-footed. There's so many different elements to no-fear football. They've had snots and guts for the last 10 years and it's been very difficult. But it's not going to change within two weeks when the players haven't been used to a completely different way” said Rooney. He better sort this one out fast.
