Juventus vice president Pavel Nedved confirmed that the best player and coach are staying put
From the minute he turned away from the ball and allowed Porto to score from the free-kick and eliminate Juventus from the Champions League, Cristiano Ronaldo has been the subject of criticism. Hundreds of articles and quotes from the former and current footballers have been written about his role in Juve and the need to get rid of him.
Still, one of the best footballers in the world will stay in Juventus for another season. It took two weeks for the club's executives to confirm it publically, but it finally happened on Wednesday, when Juventus vice-president Pavel Nedved talked about Ronaldo, coach Andrea Pirlo, and forward Paulo Dybala.
"As far as I am concerned, Ronaldo won't leave. He has a contract until June 2022, and he will stay. We'll see what will happen afterward. Cristiano Ronaldo pushed us towards the Olympus of football, both technically and in terms of image. He scored more than 100 goals in 120 matches, and, besides, he dragged us into the Champions League. He's a simple guy, although he may not look like that from the outside. He is the prototype of a modern player who has achieved incredible targets with immense talent and a lot of work“ Nedved told DAZN.
Juventus's exit from the Champions League, as well as poor results in the Serie A (culminated with a shocking 0-1 defeat to Benevento), fuelled the rumors that Italian giants will part ways with their coach too. The Old Lady won’t win the Champions League, but not the Serie A as well, and for this club, a year without a trophy is a disaster. Nedved was also clear on this subject.
"Pirlo is and will be the Juventus coach, that's 100 percent sure. We have begun a new project with him, knowing we would face difficulties. We wanted to do something more, but we could not manage to do so. We are calm, Pirlo has everything to become a great coach" explained former Juventus winger.
However, when Paulo Dybala’s name was mentioned to the Juve vice-president, he wasn’t so clear in his statement. The Argentinian has been injured this season and hasn’t played much.
"We missed Dybala. I think he hasn't played more than 800 minutes with us this season. His presence would give us more options up front. He has one year left in his contract and I have nothing to add to what Paratici and Agnelli already said. Juventus will evaluate every opportunity in the market" said Nedved.
