Richarlison is on fire, African boy Mayenda pushes Black Cats to first EPL win in 8 years

The Brazilian scores a brace in a 3-0 landslide triumph over Burnley. Sunderland also celebrate a 3-0 victory on their return to the Premier League

This will be his season, and Richarlison will probably be given the keys to this new Spurs team.

That's blatantly clear after the opening 90 minutes of the new Premier League season, as the Brazilian led Tottenham Hotspur to a much-deserved routine 3-0 home win over Burnley.

Richarlison's statement display included a goal in each half, with the other being a remarkable volley, a true stunner.

With no Heung-min Son there anymore, and James Maddison seriously injured, Richarlison is the one to take Thomas Frank's side on this new EPL journey, and he has done it marvellously on matchday one.

Overall, Spurs didn't shine, but they were way above Burnley, who may have Kyle Walker at their disposal. However, it's just not enough to hurt Tottenham. They had no solution for unplayable Richarlison, with Brennan Johnson adding one more in the second half to wrap up the tie, which promises a lot to Spurs fans.

Meanwhile, at the Stadium of Light, Sunderland celebrated a massive 3-0 home win over West Ham, marking their return to the Premier League after eight long years.

The Black Cats netted twice after the break, following the same pattern - a perfect cross from the right, and an even better header for ecstatic celebrations in the packed stands.

Eliezer Mayenda, the Spanish striker of Congolese and Togolese descent, proved his class, although still being only 20. He broke the deadlock against the Hammers and pushed his side to a historic win, just like in the 2025 EFL Championship play-off final at Wembley in May 2025.

Mayenda equalised against Sheffield United before Sunderland secured promotion to the Premier League, with the final ending 2-1. The second one today was a carbon copy of Mayenda's opener, delivered by Daniel Ballard this time. Isidor made it 3-0 in the stoppage time, but it needs to be said it was a consequence of some awful goalkeeping by Mads Hermansen.

Finally, Brighton and Hove Albion and Fulham shared spoils at the Amex (1-1) in a somewhat dull game. The Seagulls were in front thanks to O'Riley's penalty shortly after the break before Muniz nailed a last grasp equaliser deep into the stoppage time.
