The daughter of one of the most controversial players in basketball history has reached the very top in football

If you’ve ever wondered how much money the world’s highest-paid female footballer earns, here’s the answer. It’s a historic moment for women’s football, as Trinity Rodman — the daughter of legendary Dennis Rodman, one of the most controversial basketball players of all time — has signed an unprecedented contract.

The Washington Spirit forward has extended her deal with the club until 2028, securing a base salary of 850 thousand euros. However, her earnings will go far beyond that figure, as bonuses will push the total annual value of the contract to over 1.7 million euros.

With that, Rodman has — at least financially — moved ahead of recent years’ best female footballer Aitana Bonmati, who, according to unofficial reports, earns around 1.1 milion euros per year under her contract with Barcelona. The Spanish star is a two-time consecutive Ballon d’Or winner and has been named FIFA’s Best Women’s Player for three straight years.

But back to Trinity. Because of Rodman’s deal, the NWSL (National Women’s Soccer League) introduced a new “high impact” player rule. The aim of this regulation is to help the league retain its top talents in the future, as many had previously left for stronger and better-paid leagues due to salary cap restrictions. Under the new rule, teams are allowed to exceed the cap in order to keep and attract players deemed to have a major impact.

She may be the daughter of a former NBA superstar, but by her own admission, she does not have a good relationship with her 64-year-old father. Speaking recently on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Rodman said: “He’s not a dad. Maybe by blood, but nothing more.”

Trinity recalled that during her childhood, her mother, Michelle Moyer, did everything she could to protect her children from the turbulent lifestyle of the former NBA star. Her parents divorced in 2012, the same year Dennis Rodman allegedly stopped providing financial support to the family.

“We tried to live with him, but he spent his days throwing parties and bringing women home,” Trinity admitted.
