The hosts had barely settled when Sharks drew first blood. In just the second minute, Steve Mbulere sliced through Nairobi’s midfield and picked out Frankline Amollo Jr., who calmly slotted home his maiden top-flight goal to give Sharks a dream start.

But if Sharks thought they could sit back and protect the lead, Nairobi United had other ideas. The game burst into life with end-to-end exchanges, as both sides refused to blink.

The Naibois, fuelled by pace and precision, went in search of an equaliser almost immediately, and their persistence paid off.

In the 11th minute, Nigerian striker Michael Karamor latched onto a loose ball inside the box, smashing home his first goal of the season to bring the Dandora crowd to its feet.

The equaliser ignited United’s rhythm, and from that moment, the momentum shifted firmly their way.

Ovella Ochieng and Duncan Omalla tormented Sharks’ backline with wave after wave of attacks, while Markvivian Kesa tested goalkeeper Sebastian Wekesa multiple times, forcing the Naibois to stay alert.

The breakthrough came in the 36th minute when Lesley Owino pounced on a defensive lapse to slot home Nairobi’s second.

Seven minutes later, Enock Machaka unleashed a thunderbolt from distance, a goal that left Sebastian Wekesa rooted and the crowd roaring, as the hosts took a commanding 3-1 lead into the break.

Sharks coach William Muluya responded with a triple substitution at the restart, introducing Jahson Wakachala, Faiz Opande, and Victor Ngume for Markvivian Kesa, Frankline Omollo, and Keagan Ndemi, hoping to spark a turnaround.

However, their efforts barely rattled the roaring Naibois.

On the hour mark, Karamor struck again with a wonder goal that could easily be a “goal of the season” contender, curling the ball beautifully past Wekesa to make it 4-1.

Sharks pulled one back in the 68th minute through Humphrey Aroko, whose close-range finish provided a glimmer of hope.

But by then, the damage was already done.

Despite dominating possession late on, Sharks lacked the finishing touch to alter the outcome.

The result marked Nairobi United’s second successive victory, propelling Nicholas Muyoti’s men to third place on the table with 12 points, leapfrogging AFC Leopards, who had earlier fallen 2-0 to Mara Sugar.

For Sharks, the loss deepens their woes, dropping them to 17th on the 18-team log with just six points from seven rounds, a far cry from their high-flying performances of recent seasons.
