Red Devils aim to extend their magical run; Arsenal rely on their biggest rival against Man City

Manchester United will be looking to return to fourth place against Fulham, while Pep Guardiola’s side face a tough task in keeping pace with Arsenal

Just one win away from matching Ruben Amorim’s longest Premier League winning streak, Michael Carrick’s revitalised Manchester United host Fulham at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon.

The Red Devils’ resurgence continued last weekend with a thrilling 3-2 victory over league leaders Arsenal, while Fulham boosted their European credentials with a 2-1 win against Brighton. In just two Premier League gameweeks, Carrick has overseen victories over both Manchester City and Arsenal — a remarkable achievement for the interim manager — leaving United firmly in control of the battle for fourth place.

The 2-0 derby win was followed by a five-goal spectacle at the Emirates, where Fulham’s Bryan Mbeumo, Patrick Dorgu, and Matheus Cunha all left their mark, handing Arsenal their first home defeat of the season.

Carrick’s growing reputation has only been enhanced by these results. He is now the first manager since February 2010 to record back-to-back wins over the teams occupying the top two spots at the start of a Premier League weekend, guiding United to a six-game unbeaten run — the longest in England’s top flight at present.

But a new test awaits against Marco Silva’s Fulham, who are riding a wave of form themselves. The Cottagers were inconsistent in the first half of the season, winning and losing nine games each between late August and mid-December.

Since then, they have lost just once in their last eight matches across all competitions, picking up five victories along the way. Sitting seventh and only four points off the top four, Fulham’s resurgence has been underpinned by an improved away record, earning ten points from their last five Premier League road games after just one from their first six this season.

United will have to cope without Dorgu, who suffered a serious hamstring injury after scoring a goal-of-the-season contender against Arsenal. His absence opens the door for either Cunha or Benjamin Sesko to step up, with Cunha likely to lead the line alongside Mbeumo on the left. Silva could welcome back right-back Kenny Tete from a thigh issue, though Rodrigo Muniz and Sasa Lukic remain sidelined.

On the other side, seeking their 10th Premier League double over Manchester City, Tottenham host Pep Guardiola’s side at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London for Sunday’s marquee fixture.

Both teams return to domestic action on the back of 2-0 Champions League victories — Spurs overcame Eintracht Frankfurt, while City defeated Galatasaray at home. Tottenham’s European success has masked domestic struggles, however.

Since the start of 2026, Thomas Frank’s side have managed just three points from five league games, including a 2-2 draw at Burnley. Van de Ven and Romero bailed them out, but Spurs remain 14th and under pressure, despite board backing. Frank currently holds the worst points-per-game ratio at home among Spurs managers this season, with just two wins at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

City, on the other hand, aim to continue a three-match winning streak in all competitions after consecutive 2-0 wins over Wolverhampton and Galatasaray. Guardiola’s team is seeking revenge after August’s shock 2-0 loss to Spurs, though they have won the last two visits to North London in the top flight and could achieve three consecutive Premier League away wins at Tottenham for the first time.

Spurs may receive a fitness boost, with Van de Ven hopeful to return and Conor Gallagher, Yves Bissouma, Mathys Tel, Radu Dragusin, and Souza also back after missing midweek European matches. Key absentees remain, including James Maddison, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Ben Davies, Pedro Porro, Lucas Bergvall, Richarlison, and Rodrigo Bentancur.

City’s win over Galatasaray came at a cost as Jeremy Doku sustained a calf injury, joining Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, John Stones, Mateo Kovacic, and Savinho on the sidelines. Despite these issues, the visitors will still head into Sunday’s clash with a strong squad.
