There has been an uproar from Gor Mahia fans over the high ticket charges
Kenya Police Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Chris Oguso has defended the club’s decision to hike gate charges for their league match against Gor Mahia on Saturday.
Speaking on Radio Maisha on Thursday night Oguso said they took the action in a bid to control the number of fans who will turn up for the match at Police Stadium.
He said they have been strictly instructed to sell just 500 tickets given the capacity of the match venue.
“First of all we wanted to host the match at Kasarani and then Nyayo Stadia but were told Gor Mahia cannot be allowed to play at these two facilities.
After failing to get those two we had a meeting with Football Kenya Federation (FKF) who told us to restrict the number of fans to strictly 500.
We then had to come up with a way to distribute the tickets and ensure that we stick to the number and one way was to sell the tickets at a high price,” he explained.
For the 500 tickets, 50 will be for VVIP and each costs Sh.3,000. Another 100 tickets will be sold for Sh.2,000 for those sitting in the VIP area. The rest of the tickets will be for terraces and will be sold for Sh.1,500.
He said no tickets will be sold on the match day and warned fans who don’t have them to stay away and watch the match on television.

“Security will be very tight as we will deploy three platoons of General Service Unit (GSU). We want to ensure that everyone is safe and that the match does not interfere in anyway with those doing other businesses,” he insisted.
He also defended their home ground pointing out that apart from Kasarani and Nyayo it was the best maintained and especially preferred for live matches.
