Real Madrid are fed up with Ferland Mendy: stay fit or leave for good

Reading Time: 2min | Sun. 19.10.25. | 16:20

Since joining them in 2019, the French player of Senegalese origins has faced 17 injuries, missed 112 matches, and spent over 626 days on the sidelines

Ferland Mendy's time at Real Madrid may be ticking away.

According to Fichajes, the club - who is about to face Getafe tonight (10 pm) - is ready to part ways with the French full-back in 2026, unless he finally proves he can stay fit.

Mendy has only just returned to group training after more than six months out, recovering from a right quadriceps tear suffered in the Copa del Rey final. His return to competitive football remains uncertain, with Madrid's medical staff taking no risks after 170 days on the sidelines.

Since joining Los Blancos in 2019, Mendy's injury record has become alarming: 17 separate setbacks, 112 games missed, and over 600 days absent. A player admired for his defensive solidity has seen his consistency destroyed by constant physical problems.

Now under Xabi Alonso, things have changed. Mendy is no longer the undisputed left-back. Alvaro Carreras and Fran Garcia currently lead the rotation, while the coach plans to reintroduce Mendy slowly, testing whether his body can withstand the rhythm of a full season.

Madrid's patience is wearing thin. If Mendy can't stay fit or fails to earn his place, the club could let him go next year. But if he finds form again, he still has a chance to rebuild his status in Madrid or secure a move elsewhere.
