UEFA has shown zero sympathies for those who stubbornly defend the project of European Super League
Alexander Ceferin said that UEFA would take severe sanctions against the clubs that tried to defect and form the European Super League, and it seems that it is on the right track. According to the influential ESPN, they plan to punish all disobedient clubs with a two-year ban from participating in the Champions League and (or) the Europa League!
Several different sources "whispered" to the American media that the "dirty 12" would have to distance themselves enough from the project to avoid expulsion from UEFA club competitions. Otherwise, there will be no grace. No matter what their name is. Ceferin is so determined and disappointed with those who tried to create a "closed" league, only for the rich.
ESPN adds that UEFA has held talks with representatives of all 12 clubs for the past ten days, intending to receive formal confirmation that they will not continue to deal with the Super League project in the future. By Wednesday, they had agreed with seven. Those clubs are Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool, and Atletico Madrid. Allegedly, Inter were close to saying "yes", although there is no agreement (yet) with the new Italian champions.
Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Milan still stubbornly hold their positions. Still, according to ESPN, they risk being called by UEFA to violate Article 51 of its Statute, according to which "there is no association of clubs or federations without UEFA permission". And that, according to the leaders of the European House of Football, is enough to reach for sanctions under which those who joined - and did not leave the Super League - could be kicked out from the Champions League or Europa League.
On the other hand, two Spanish and Italian giants each believe that they did not violate the regulations because they demanded "recognition" and not "splitting" from UEFA and FIFA.
Essentially, if nine of the 12 "outlaws" announced that they had withdrawn from the Super League project, it would officially cease to exist. Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and Milan are currently acting as guardians of fire, while UEFA continues to pressure each of them.
Neither the outlaws nor UEFA has an interest in dragging the process through the courts.
