Quick recovery! Newcastle get their boss back in time for Gunners showdown

Reading Time: 2min | Fri. 26.11.21. | 21:29

Eddie Howe has recovered from Covid and will lead the team this weekend

Eddie Howe was forced to sit out what should have been his first match in charge of Newcastle United after testing positive to coronavirus on the eve of the game. But the Magpies will have their coach in the dugout when they meet Arsenal on Saturday evening.

After a repeated test and thorough examinations by medical staff, Howe has been allowed to return to his duty and assume control of his new team.

The former Bournemouth tactician wasn't with his players during this week, but he's kept close communication with his staff and has given them precise instructions about match preparation, as confirmed by assistant manager Jason Tindall.

"We are looking forward to having Eddie back. I'm sure the fans can't wait to see him on the touchline. We have been in constant dialogue every day - before and after training and then again in the evenings to prepare training for the following day."

Over in North London, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta had a week to think things over after his side's dismal showing at Anfield and a deserved 4-0 whipping. At least he has no new selection problems ahead of the clash with Premier League's bottom-placed team. The Spaniard has also been boosted by the news that midfielder Granit Xhaka could return before the end of the year after making good progress in his recovery from a knee ligament injury.
