PSG wipe floor with Marseille in one-sided five-goal derby

Reading Time: 3min | Mon. 09.02.26. | 07:25

The Parisians dominated and the score could have easily been 8-0

On paper, it was Le Classique, the famous derby match between Marseille and PSG.

On paper, it was a thrilling duel between the second-placed and third-placed teams and since Olympique won the first game of the season, the presumption was that it would be a tight duel.

After all, PSG have not won in Paris since January 2026. Luis Enrique's players were going through a rough patch, with only three wins in their last six matches across all competitions.

But in reality, it was totally the opposite.

PSG smashed Olympique and humiliated their opponent with a 5-0 win.

The Parisians played badly in some other games and sometimes allowed far worse opponents to defeat them or draw against them, but when they faced their arch-rival, they were motivated as it was the Champions League final.

They scored five goals and in reality, they should have scored four more.

PSG totally dominated the game from the first minute while Marseille players just did not show up fo the game.

Roberto De Zerbi talked about the need to be ‘hungry’ in these games, but his players did the opposite, totally.

One big shadow over this derby was the dubious decision not to give Vitinha a red card.

In the 9th minute, PSG midfielder made a high tackle on Balerdi's shin, but got only a yellow card.

We saw other players getting a red card when this kind of tackle was made against some PSG players, but when Vitihna did it in Le Classique, the referee and VAR remained silent.

This situation had a huge impact on this game, as instead of 10 men on the field, PSG scored two minutes later.

It was Ousmane Dembele who finished an action started by Doue, who made a beautiful pass from his own half to Nuno Mendes.

The excellent left back made a run and allowed Dembele to score from a simple tap-in. Barcola, who terrorised Marseille’s defence throughout the game, had his first chance in the 21st minute when he hit the post.

Jeffrey de Lange made the first save of the night and prevented Doue from scoring in the 32nd minute.

However, after a mistake from captain Balerdi, Ballon d’Or winner came from the right and scored a beauty from a very tight angle for 2-0.

At that point, the game was already won.

Marseille fans, who were prevented from attending the game, were sitting in front of their TVs, hoping their team would show some willingness and ‘hunger’ (Roberto De Zerbi's main phrase) in the second half, but the opposite happened.

PSG were even more aggressive and created many chances.

It was only a matter of time before the third goal was scored.

De Lange made some saves, Doue hit the post and the third goal finally came in the 64th minute, when Medina scored an own goal after another attack from the hosts.

In the next 10 minutes, Marseille scored two more goals and it looked it could have been more than 5-0.

And just like that, Olympique is in another crisis.

They are now fourth in the league and De Zerbi is officially under pressure,
